Passion

Yesterday, I attended and presented at REBarCamp. (If you don't know what a BarCamp is, check out my earlier post.) It's the third BarCamp I've attended, and this one was specific to Real Estate (hence the 'RE').  Once again, it was an amazing experience (as it is every time I present).

For the most part, the presentations were about Social Media, and the various aspects of Social Media in Real Estate.

Now, you may have heard that the real estate industry has been hit fairly hard over the past year or so. I was curious to see what the attendees' attitudes and outlooks were going to be. What I noticed was the passion for what they did, which is probably the reason that these professionals are still in the industry, and had also taken the time to attend REBarCamp (some coming from as far away as California to attend).

And from a Social Media perspective, it's this passion that will very often carry the day.  Creating a SocMed presence is easy - keeping it going over the long-term, not so easy.   It's tough to keep facebooking, twittering, linking and blogging, in an on-going an consistent basis. (If you take a look at how long ago my previous post was, you will see I am guilty of not keeping this blog going as well as I should). You (meaning me, of course) get busy at work, with the family, different projects. Who has the time.  But if you look at the people who are viewed as successful in their fields, and also those who are successful in SocMed, they have the inner drive to continue going no matter what else is going on.

So keep blogging, tweeting, and linking.  It will pay off in the end.

(BTW, REBarCampMiami was planned by the amazing Ines Hegedus-Garcia. Check out her blog.)

Welcome to the (Social Media) Club

Earlier this week I presented to the Social Media Club of South Florida. The title of the presentation was "140 Characters or Less: Is Social Media Driving Real Business or are we just Tweeting/Friending/Following/Linking/Digging between ourselves?" If you care to take the time, you will notice that the title is 140 characters, which is the size limit of a Twitter 'tweet'.

The presentation can be seen on Slideshare.net, and I have embedded it below. It's split into 2 discussions - the first is a discussion of how Social Media in and of itself is not a strategy, but a tactic that supports a campaign that supports a business strategy, just as any other tactic would (whether print, broadcast, search, email). The second part is a case study of the work we are doing at Starmark for Nova Southeastern University, helping them build out their social media program.

This is just a test...Xlop27m

If this had been an actual post, you would have been reading something of value. This is only a test.
